Okay, okay, so these babies are actually in bloom all over Brooklyn and tree-lined Manhattan streets and probably even in Staten Island (not that I'd ever go and find out). And it's been freezing here and rainy and windy (so that your umbrella turns inside out) and I walked around for thirteen hours today in a totally inappropriate (but oh so cute) dress that kept flying up around my waist. You know it's bad when even construction workers are alerting you to your indecent exposure. They're like, "Baby–put that shit away!" Hmmm . . . And a bird shit on my head yesterday and the train took too long and, and, and . . .
And yet, it's totally and completely delightful here. And it's partially because of all the above beautiful trees. And tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and lovely again (I hope!) and my hair is thoroughly cleaned of guano droppings (which everyone swears–against all common sense–is good luck) and I think I'll wear jeans, so I don't flash anyone.
So all and all, I'm loving it here. And, yes, I know this is an unacceptably uninformative and unsubstantial post. But I'm tried and on pseudo vacation, so you'll have to hear about the best shumai, meatball arugula salads, artichoke dip and Dark & Stormy cocktails tomorrow.
For now, you'll have to be content with this: It turns out a tree really does grow in Brooklyn. And I've got the picture above to prove it.
